OSAC: Shaunavon & Kindersley

This weekend as part of an OSAC tour I had the opportunity to play Shaunavon and Kindersley.
The talented Brodie Mohninger accompanied me for both shows.

In Shaunavon we played the Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Centre to a sold out crowd, surrounded by Sandra Knoss's fantastic work.

In Kindersley we played the Norman Ritchie Community Centre and a fantastic band "Blackbery Wine" played a couple of sets afterwards. Wonderful people and fantastic musicians.

Cold Snap Farm House Video

The current temperature made it feel like it was an appropriate time to post this video.
The title, a nod to the current climate, and the visual, a reminder of warmer days to come. : )

We filmed this video at the Bowler farm near Palmer, Saskatchewan, on a gorgeous Autumn day. I felt the location was perfect for the song. Rural to compliment the country progression and the bare trees to compliment the lyrics.

I wrote this song while living in Moose Jaw about a year before we made this video. I was heavily inspired by the change of weather and the idea of the harsh cold to come. I like Winter, I swear, but as most Prairie folks know they can be harsh. I try to draw the connection of preparing for Winter and preparing for a break up during my stage show. (This banter fails in Vancouver though as I discovered in August on tour, being informed it barely goes below zero... ha!)

Justin Guignard and I set out for the farm house with two cameras and a ZOOM H6 recorder. Besides the beautiful weather, the odds were against us to get a good take that day. We got one shot before the second camera died and a neighbour showed up needing help with a grain bin. (Hashtag Saskatchewan Problems.) This is the one and only take we got. However I am pleased with it and happy to show you this song.

The Best Ugly Jacket I've Ever Had

My mother picked up this jacket for me from a second hand store last week and insists that I post a photo of this beautiful article of clothing.

So here is it... faux red trim AND long horn embroidery all in one! Lucky me!

Thanks for the coat Mum (and for the laughs when buying it.. clothes hunting with you is always a riot).

I'll wear it to o'Hanlon's on Friday, I plomise.

This past weekend was amazing.

I got to play an unforgettable house concert at Neil Jone's Studio in Rockglen, complete with friendly faces and a power outage (which turned out to be awesome cause then I played unplugged AND we had a Stevie nick's singalong AND I want to cry just thinking about how fun it was...)

Then Saturday I went to Saskatoon. It was an honour to be a part of the Bone Shaker event, raising funds for the independent horror/comedy film “INSTRUMENTS of EVIL”. Good friends, good beer, good times.

SHOWS THIS WEEK

Thursday - Gravelbourg - Wiley's - 8 pm
Friday - Moose Jaw - Private Function
